Regis, a young, black teenager whose sole aspiration is to be a successful rap artist, must first overcome the underprivileged, drug-ridden French suburbs of his upbringing in this black and white debut from hip-hop musician Abd Al Malik. Amidst his double life as a petty criminal and an aspiring artist, Regis eventually finds Islam after the death of a close friend. The film, based on Malik's real-life experiences, follows the young convert as he navigates the music industry, street violence and racism, leading him to newfound fame in the world of rap and slam-poetry.

Review :
An award-winning film based on the life of a gifted young man who let his love of philosophy and literature transform his life.
This film is based on the life of its director, Abd al Malik, and veers through the harsh realities of his life as a teen growing up in Neuhof, France, that are the perfect contrast of street violence [what he wades through daily] to philosophy and literature [which prepare him, as one of his teacher's predicted, for his spiritual transformation after he sees a close friend killed]. The title, "May Allah Bless France!" becomes Abd's prayer for himself and those he shares his life with as you see the trajectory of this young man and his ultimate arrival at his decision to love life, love where he is, and embrace his gifts. Beautifully filmed in black and white--a few scenes are worthy of just pausing and looking at how they were set up and taking in the beauty that sometimes only black and white can reveal. The acting is excellent, and the writing is fresh and not overdone. The score is equal to the beauty and strength of this film, and both Abd and Wallen's [his real-life love...

CLEVELAND ABDUCTION is a chilling portrayal of evil, personified

The fact that this movie is based on actual events is troubling enough, but to watch it all laid out, so to speak, was extremely disturbing. I, myself, have never read any of the books the other reviewers mentioned, but from what I saw on this film, it's almost incomprehensible to think about the other horrors brought upon these 3 women by that psychopath!
The actors were all very good and believable and there was enough character development with "Michelle" to draw the viewer in to the story. I'm sure alot of people will wonder why these women wouldn't try to escape after years of captivity, but there are many examples of what the experts call "Stockholm Syndrome", when a person actually starts to believe everything their captor says to do and what to believe. Also, in this story, there was a strong bond forged by the women that kept them staying to protect the safety of the others

This movie is moving and yet troubling to watch

This was a very moving movie. I even found it troubling to watch at times. I realize this movie is from the perspective of one woman but all three made the movie difficult to see. Knowing the outcome from the news media is probably why I continued watching this movie. My heart and soul went out to these woman. Suing the city and police department (after this was uncovered) wasn't enough for these women. That's my opinion.

True story, this is not a "movie", it's a reanactment of a crime
UGH, so awful and painful to watch, thought about turning it off since it was to hard but realized those girls could not turn off that experience so stuck with it with tears running down my face. I think Michelle is very brave, understand why she would reject her family after all that, not just because he said they didn't care, but they truly seemed to not care and that is horribly hurtful. She got a raw deal in life, with her messed up family and then this. I hope she has a wonderful life the rest of the way, nothing can erase those years but she seems to have such strength to go on and be happy. I wish that animal had to live through a life time of prison, yes glad he's dead but he did not suffer like those girls did. I can't imagine how it is to be the mother of his child, or his child, that has to be hard, but they are innocent victims. Hope all the girls have successful happy lives, they can overcome this horror, thank God they were finally free, it's amazing he got away with...

Perfect for our Entire Family

We just went to the Theater and saw this movie. It was done SO well. I was touched, as well as other family members. We have owned the book for years, and were excited about seeing the movie. Not one bit let down. Even my 8 year old son loved it and wanted to reread the book when we got back from the theater. I like how they developed the reasons behind Mr. Crampton's grumpiness without taking from the original story.
Absolutely worth your time and money, honestly, if you want to enjoy something touching as an entire family.
Also, I don't think you have to watch this only at Christmas. The message of love and forgiveness are good all year long.

highly recommended for Christmas and any time of the year.
As a movie reviewer on a quest to find wholesome family entertainment, I’m always thrilled to find a heartwarming movie that I hadn’t heard much about and discover a gem in the process.

Such is the case with Christmas Oranges.

Rose was abandoned as a baby on the steps of Greenwoods Orphanage. The motherly caretaker, widow Mrs. Hartley, takes Rose in to the orphanage and raises her, along with the other children of the orphanage, as if they were her own. The children enjoy a loving environment and all is well until the unspeakable happens.

Rose is then transferred to Irongates Orphanage, a place opposite in every way from the Greenwoods Orphanage. Under cruel Mr. Crampton’s direction, the children at Irongates are under strict rule with no love and very little attention.

Rose is immediately grateful for the new friends she finds at Irongates, as well as, Mr. Crampton’s kind brother Joe, and Polly, the cook. She hears...
Sure to be a Christmas Tradition and Favorite

I just saw this movie in the theater and loved it. I looked down the row at my family and kids and saw tears in each one of their eyes as they were touched in such a beautiful way. It was not just for children and not just for adults - but for the whole family. This is a Christmas book I grew up hearing and have continued sharing with my children each year and I am so happy to be able to extend that tradition into watching this movie each year. Great job to all involved!

Charming & Engaging
This film is an enjoyable and interesting Christmas movie that is based on a Max Lucado story. It's one of those movies that after you watch, you think "this could have been even better and truly been a great movie" but still as-is, it's a worthwhile movie and an enjoyable watch.

I loved the small-town feel that was portrayed, and I loved the mystery component as this guy seeks to uncover his past. The guy playing the lead is William Moses, who I recognized as the guy that used to play Perry Mason's private investigator in the Perry Mason movies in the 80's and 90's. In some ways, he was fulfilling a similar role - except he is a journalist in this film [and isn't trying to solve a murder! ;) ]

Steven Curtis Chapman plays a guitar-playing pastor and was genuinely a joy to see and hear. The sermonizing in the movie is kept very low-key - there's not a huge amount of theology in this movie - but it just presents a message that God came for us in the person...
One of my favorites

This ranks up there as one of my favorite movies in the Christian movie genre. Also it has a few recognizable actors in it also(William R. Moses ferom Falcon Crest,Muse Watson from N.C.I.S.)

Christmas Child

What a touching movie. The story was believable and not sappy. Both my husband and I really enjoyed it. All would be touched by this story.

Review :
A good film for a rainy day.

Not bad. Good pacing, the scares and odd things begin quickly, and the acting is believable. The end is too abrupt and unfinished....and not in the typical ambiguous way of a horror film. This just ends.

entertaning classic well done

This is ok creepy movie no copy cat movie no held hand camera crap no annoying crying or screams its just get down to the point I like it it was not boring

The acting was great. Its a low-budget film but despite that was pretty creepy. Its a good story but lacked big scares and kind of leaves you hanging in the end.Other than that, its finally nice to see a horror movie with good acting for a change.
